Printable Deep-fried Hush Puppies Recipe (pdf)

A bowl full of deep-fried hush puppies at home in under 30 minutes using just one cup of oil.

These deep-fried hush puppies are crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, slightly sweet and just a little kick of cayenne pepper. Just add some melted, salted butter. These are a must with any seafood dish! Fish, crabs, shrimp, etc.

Dry ingredients:
1 C flour
1 TBSP corn meal
5 TBSP sugar
2 TBSP onion flakes
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp cayenne pepper

Wet ingredients:
2 eggs
Milk as required for proper consistency (not too thick, not too thin

Whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Add the eggs and a splash of milk. Stir. If the batter is too dry add another splash. You want the batter thoroughly wet yet stiff.

Carefully drop two hush puppies at a time into the hot oil using a cookie dough scoop.

Deep fry at 375° F for 3-1/2 minutes, rotating occasionally. Allow the hush puppies to rest for 5 minutes as the inside will continue to cook.

Yields 1 dozen hush puppies. Serve with melted butter.
